It isn’t uncommon for celebrities to be promoting detox diet teas. However, what is uncommon is that the celebrities post the instructions to the advertisement in their caption.
Boo Tea is one of the major companies that use influencers to advertise their product. But when they use these influencers to post they want it to seem like this is something that they personally use and make their audience want to purchase the product because of this.
Scott Disick made an unfortunate mistake and posted the instructions. Just this small mistake makes consumers realize that it is fake.

Something that has become surprisingly popular nowadays is cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency is like an online form of money that is seemingly untraceable. A lot of these companies use major influencers like musicians or athletes to support these currencies and market to specific audiences.
Despite how much you are being paid to advertise or market something on your page you must first check out the company! This went completely over DJ Khaled and Floyd Mayweather when they started advertising for an illegal company. After signing contracts with Centra Tech, Floyd went as far as to say, “call me Floyd ‘crypto’ Mayweather from now on”.
After Centra Tech’s founder was charged in April 2018 these two celebrities have been critiqued on their role with the company. Proving that sometimes influencers have no clue what they are trying to sell to you.

Like many of the Kardashian clans, Kim Kardashian makes a lot of money from promoting products through her Instagram. However, a lot of audiences are skeptical if Kim even uses these products herself!
During Kim’s pregnancy with baby North West, Kim advertised the morning sickness drug Diclegis. Audiences were frustrated because not only was this a prescription drug, but it had a long list of side effects that Kim didn’t include in her post. According to the FDA it is illegal to market pharmaceutical products without including this information so inevitably Kim had to remove the post.
Hopefully, no one purchased this product because of Kim’s post without doing their research!
2. Fyre Festival
If you or anyone you know has Instagram chances are that they have heard about Fyre Festival. In 2017 Ja Rule teamed up with an up-and-coming tech entrepreneur to host the hottest and most exclusive summer festival ever. It was set to happen on a private island in the Bahamas and everyone went nuts for it!
This is one of the biggest cases of influencer marketing in history to date! Celebrities from supermodels like Bella Hadid to Emily Ratajkowski were posting orange blocks on their Instagrams in order to promote the event tagging #FyreFestival. Overall, 63 major influencers posted this to their accounts and the first one got 300 million impressions in just under 24 hours!
However, as everyone is seeing their favorite influencer promote the event the more people want to go. But when thousands of people showed up on the island the event quickly flopped. No festival had been planned and the festival management was so where to be found.
Now known as the world’s biggest festival flop it is also known as some of the worst false marketing from influencers to date! While the founder is now serving time in jail the influencers are just left with their embarrassment.

Many will remember this infamous flop of Kendall Jenner. This is by far one of the biggest marketing flops of all time. In a partnership between Kendall Jenner and Pepsi, Kendall appears in a commercial where insensitive is an understatement.
There is a crowd of protesters that are going head-to-head with police officers and tensions are very high. Then when Kendall Jenner offers a police officer a can of Pepsi it seems to fix the whole situation, and everyone celebrates.
Obviously, audiences did not respond well to this assumption that difficult political matters can be solved with just a can of Pepsi. This reflected poorly on both Kendall Jenner and Pepsi.
Brands need to be more aware when commenting on certain political topics and remain sensitive to the subject they are portraying.
In the end, remember while looking through social media to stay aware that influencers are being paid to market products to you and do your research before purchasing something that you’ve never seen before. What you see on social media is different from real life, everything is altered to fit the brand of the company or person so people will like them or want to buy what they are selling.
